Beijing signals readiness to respond to countries supporting US tariffs

Global markets are on alert as China signals its readiness to respond forcefully to any nation that aligns with the United States in the ongoing trade dispute. Beijing has warned that it will retaliate against countries supporting Washington in the tariff conflict, raising the stakes for those challenging China’s position.
According to CNBC, citing China’s Ministry of Commerce, authorities are prepared to respond to any country that cooperates with the United States at the expense of Chinese interests. These warnings follow White House statements that Washington might use tariff negotiations to pressure partners and limit their business with China. Beijing will firmly oppose any party striking a deal at China’s expense and “will take countermeasures in a resolute and reciprocal manner,” its Commerce Ministry said.
China’s Ministry of Commerce also warned of risks facing most countries. Chinese authorities argue that there is no need for international trade to revert to “jungle law.” At the same time, Beijing says it is ready to cooperate with all parties and defend international justice and fairness. Previously, China described US actions as “unilateralism and arbitrary tariffs.”
However, few analysts expect a US–China deal any time soon. In fact, tensions may rise further. Last week, Chinese President Xi Jinping visited Vietnam, Malaysia, and Cambodia, making his first overseas trip in 2025. During these meetings, Xi urged leaders to work together against tariffs and “unilateralism.”
