On 12 April 1961, Yuri Gagarin performed the first-ever flight into space. Neil Armstrong, the NASA astronaut, admitted that Gagarin set the example for future space explorers. The day on which Gagarin journeyed into space has become a holiday, and the astronaut has become world-famous.

Speaking of Gagarin's biography, we should remember how the astronaut's career started. In 1955, he was sent to the First Air Force Pilot's School in Chkalov which is now Orenburg. In 1957 he graduated from it with honors.

In 1959 the future space conqueror filed a report with a request to enroll him in the group of candidates for a flight into space.

The first flight into space was performed on April 12, 1961. The Vostok spacecraft with Gagarin aboard was launched from Baikonur Cosmodrome. After 108 minutes the astronaut landed near the Smelovka village (Saratov region).

In 1961, after the famous flight, Yuri Gagarin went abroad for the first time. He visited about 30 countries after being invited by foreign governments and non-governmental organizations.

The astronaut passed away in 1968. During a routine flight on MiG-15UTI, Yuri Gagarin and colonel Vladimir Seryogin died in a crash near the Novoselovo village (Vladimir region). Funeral urns of the both pilots were buried in the Kremlin wall.
