Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge

Its construction cost over $9 billion. The bridge is 42-kilometer long, including 7 kilometers of the underwater tunnel. The capacity of 100,000 cars a day eased movements for both tourists and locals. Previously, the road from Macao to Hong Kong took from 4 hours to 2-3 days. Now it takes around 40 minutes.

Bosphorus Tunnel

The tunnel's length is 13.6 kilometers with 1.4 kilometers running underwater. The Marmaray tunnel is a double tube designed to withstand 9-magnitude earthquakes. The rail service is capable of carrying around 1.5 million people a day.

Vinpearl Cable Car

The 3.3-kilometer long gondola lift cost $9 billion. It is the world's longest cable road running above the sea. The construction is supported by 7 offshore towers able to work during earthquakes, strong winds, and even tsunami. It can carry 14,400 people a day.

Hangzhou Bay Bridge

Around $1.5 billion were spent on this construction. Its S-shape increases the bridge's resistance to tides.

Its carrying capacity totals 50,000 cars a day.

Strait of Messina Bridge

For years, Silvio Berlusconi's government was proposing to launch the construction of the 3,300-meter bridge over the Strait of Messina. Unfortunately, the project was considered to be too expensive (around 6.1 billion euros) and got cancelled. When in 2008 Berlusconi was re-elected the Premier of Italy, he promised to build the bridge again. However, in 2013 the project was shut down. Passengers and goods are still transported by ferry companies such as Meridiano Lines, Rete Ferroviaria Italiana, and Caronte & Tourist.
