Last Wednesday, Brazil's Senate voted to remove Rousseff from the office. The officials voted 61 to 20 to impeach her (54 votes were needed to approve impeachment).
However, according to results of another vote, Dilma Rousseff is not barred from holding any public office in future.
In her comments on the Senate's vote, Rousseff quoted a poem written by Soviet-era Russian poet Vladimir Mayakovsky.
She promised to "fight back" and to keep advocating democratic future of Brazil.
After the decision announcement, supporters of Rousseff held mass protests in one of the largest cities in Brazil, San Paolo. Disorders ended in clashes with the police.
Dilma Rousseff also stated she considers the officials' decision a lie. The former president pointed out that she was elected by 54 million people, but was removed by mere 60. She called the vote “a parliamentary coup”.
Michel Temer (pictured with his wife) has been sworn in as the president. He will serve out Rousseff's term by the end of 2018 until another head of the country will be elected.
