Along with oil strike in USA in the Wyoming State there was an incident which is considered to be one of the biggest political rows in the West.
In 1992 Albert Fall (in the picture to the left second) who had held a post of the Interior Secretary of the USA was accused of taking bribe (about $400 ths. or about $5 mil. at the present quotation) from the directorship of the oil producing companies Mammoth Oil and Pan American Petroleum.
The sheer fact of bribery of the official was solved by journalists of The Wall Street Journal, and after making an investigation his guilty was proved, adjudged Fall to one year of jail and to the penalty at the rate of $100 ths.
In 1989 five senators of the U.S. made their mark, they were charged with corruption during the loan-saving recession at the end of the eighties. The officials helped the chairman of the construction company Lincoln Savings and Loan Association to avoid inspection and got money for its pre-election campaign. The name of the chairman is Charles Kiting (in the picture), and the participants of the high-profile case were tagged as “five”.
In 2006 the juicy scandal flared up around Chen Shui-bian who held a post of the President of Taiwan and the Chairman of Democratic Progressive Party at that moment.
The gravamen to Shui-bian came down to that he and his family had cashed the raised checks on airline tickets and other goods and services.
In spite of the long citizens' protests the politician didn't leave office. However on November 11 2008 Chen Shui-bian was arrested on charges of bribery and money laundering. During the judicial proceedings the politician's guilty was proved at all points. The ex-president's wife was also punished for taking bribes, money laundering, official post trading and false affidavit.
On June 11, 2010 the judge substituted life sentence with twenty years of imprisonment. Besides of the arrest Chen Shui-bian and his wife were also obligated to pay the penalty at the rate of NT$250 mln and NT$200 mln respectively.
In January last year the politician was early-released for medical reasons, but his wife continues to serve a sentence.
The American politician-democrat from the Illinois State Rod Blagojevich, who had held a post of the Governor of Illinois for 2003-2009, was removed from the post on a charge of bribery.
On December 9, 2008 Blagojevich was arrested by FBI agents accused him of the plot to commit a fraud with the use of post and extortion.
House of Illinois confirmed the decision to declare impeachment to him by 114 votes against 1. Then the State Senate gave a sentence on Blagojevich in an unanimous vote (59 votes against 0) and removed him from the post on January 29, 2009.
Blagojevich is the second ever office-holder of the Illinois State and the first Governor taken under impeachment.
The ex-Governor has been serving a sentence in Englewood Federal Prison in Colorado since December 7, 2011 when he was sentenced for 14 years jail term.
The democrat, who had represented New Orleans (the Louisiana State) at Congress almost for 20 years, enlarged his budget with bribes at the rate of about $500 ths. All that is about William Jefferson.
The most money-making illegitimate source for the politician was the companies which worked in Africa and contracted with the government of the U.S. The accusations against Jefferson were brought at 16 points, and at 11 from them including bribery, extortion and money laundering, his guilty was fully proved. As the result the official was sentenced to 13 years prison.
